The Sheraton Grand Mirage Resort Gold Coast is located at Main Beach and is a 5 star hotel with a price tag to match, but does it live up to the price and the hype? In our experience, the answer is a clear YES! Read our Sheraton Grand Mirage Gold Coast review and find out why.
Location Of Sheraton Grand Mirage Resort Gold Coast The Sheraton Grand Mirage is one of, if not the only 5 start hotel on the Gold Coast with direct beach access. It is located at Main Beach on the northern end of the Gold Coast and far enough away from Surfers Paradise that you can enjoy some peace and quiet but close enough that a quick $15 Uber ride has you in the heart of the pulsating 24/7 nightlife of Surfers.
We will cover the multiple onsite restaurants and bars later, but there are plenty of walking distance options. A short walk over the elevated pedestrian bridge and you are in the Marina Mirage with all the amazing high end and niche stores including;
Domani & Co Tommy Hillfinger John Forsyth For Men Pellini Wyse Lifestyle Trendz Hair Studio (voted best hairdresser on the Gold Coast) Sunset Waterfront Cafe & Grill Cafe Mirage PLUS many more
Another 200 mtr’s along SeaWorld Drive and there is the Southport Yacht Club and the Southport Life Saving Club while walking back after dinner there’s a great bottle shop that is open late. A great place for lunch is the Fisherman’s Wharf Tavern, where you will enjoy beautiful views over the famous Broadwater while enjoying lunch and a cold beer. After lunch, why not have a flutter on the pokies. You might just win a jackpot!
Change direction and head north and in 5 minutes you are outside the world famous SeaWorld amusement park for all the rides and animals you can handle. Raise your adrenaline on the Jet Rescue Coaster or the new(ish) Storm Coaster. Once you’ve had your fill of adventure, check out the animals and shows.
Surfers Paradise is only a 10 minute Uber ride and other big theme parks, Movieworld & Dreamworld and about 20 – 25 minutes by car.
We have noticed a lot of people asking questions online about the location such as How close to the beach is Sheraton Grand Mirage Resort Gold Coast? and Which popular attractions are close to Sheraton Grand Mirage Resort? Hopefully, we have answered these in enough detail to encourage you to book your stay.
Overall, the Sheraton Grand Mirage is perfectly located at the north end of the Gold Coast. Far enough from the hustle and bustle to enjoy peace and quiet but close enough to be fun and don’t forget about the incredible direct beach access.
Arrival & Check-In On arrival, you drive up a beautiful, broad, elegant driveway framed by manicured gardens before stopping at the front entrance where you are met by warm and friendly check-in staff and porters for your bags. Once your bags are removed from your vehicle, the next time you see them is in your 5 star guest room.
Sheraton Grand Mirage Resort Gold Coast Entry Foyer Sheraton Mirage Gold Coast Reception Area When we arrived, there was ample check in staff to ensure the whole process was managed quickly. We found the staff to be well-informed of all this resort has to offer, and the computer system was efficient, with the staff instantly seeing and acknowledging the extra perks that came with our booking.
At the time of our stay, due to Civid-19, the wearing of face masks was mandatory when indoors unless seated and eating or drinking. This did lead to very minor issues communicating at times with staff.
The area is beautifully appointed with loads of comfortable seating and an ocean view to get you into holiday mode immediately. Pearls Bar is located on the right hand side with incredible ocean views, a nice cocktail and snack menu and a warm inviting vibe that melts away the stress and sets you up with a period of relaxation and calm.
One slight negative is that this is a large resort with nearly 300 rooms and some of them are a fair walk from reception and the other amenities. The trade off is these rooms are closer to the beach, the pool and the poolside bar. I guess everything balances out at the end of the day.
It should come as no surprise with this standard of accommodation, but there is a $100 per room “hold” required on a valid credit card. Ours was released 3 days after we checked out which is wonderful.
Parking Plenty of self-parking is available onsite for $20 per day and there are numerous lifts from the car park to the accommodation areas, so you never have too far to walk.
Overall, the check in process was warm and inviting, while maintaining professionalism and efficiency.
Arrival & Check-In Rating
Executive Spa Room Upgrade When we booked our holiday through Luxury Escapes we elected to upgrade from a standard room to an Executive Spa room for an extra $100 for our 5 night stay, and we are pleased to say the extra few dollars a day was well worth it!
Our room was on the ground floor of the north wing, very close to the pool and only a short 2 minutes stroll to the beautiful golden sand beach.
The room was large and very well appointed. With the curtains drawn there was an abundance of natural light and when closed provided excellent sun and light block out with the room very dark.
Sheraton Grand Mirage Resort Gold Coast – Bed In Executive Spa Room Bed & Living Area There was a full width glass sliding door that opened onto a beautiful garden area with a small table and chairs. We used this area several times to simply relax, enjoy a drink and some fresh air. We did like the fact that the glass sliding doors did have additional security with drop bolts on both doors.
The furnishes are superb quality and looked reasonably new. Despite looking, we did not find any stains or worn areas on anything. The bed came with 2 enormous pillows to match the size of this incredible bed, one very soft and one medium to firm. My wife (Pauline) loved the pillows, but I would have liked a firmer one.
The bed was incredible! It was huge and simply amazing. It had a wonderful cloud soft topper but with a really firm base that provided great support. The sheets were magnificent! 100% cotton, fresh, clean and beautifully made daily by the friendly but inconspicuous housekeeping staff. The lamps on either side of the bed include really useful USB charging points for your phone.
Sheraton Grand Mirage Gold Coast Executive Spa desk The room was spacious and came with a really nice sitting area with a 2 person couch, a small table and a single lounge chair for relaxing and watching TV. Alongside the sitting area was a useful desk or working area with ample power points, USB charging points and lighting.
A nice touch and acknowledgement of the need to reduce our waste output was the fact that the rubbish bin was divided into 2 with one side clearly marked as recycling. We noticed during our 5 night stay that most of our waste ended up in the recycling section, so a little nod to the environment.
The Sheraton Gold Coast rooms come in many different standards and styles. We are very happy with our decision to upgrade and would recommend you explore all available options when booking your stay.
Bathroom
The bathroom was wonderful. Roomy, well appointed, modern and comfortable. The shower over the spa bath could be a problem for those with mobility issues, and the step between the bath and the floor did get wet when having a shower. The supplied “upgraded” amenities included
Sheraton Grand Mirage Executive Spa Bathroom & Spa As expected, the bathroom was very well appointed, very classy, with a nice warm tone of marble. The supplied amenities were very high quality and included;
Shampoo
Conditioner
Body wash
Body Moisturiser
A bar of creamy, moisturising soap
Shower cap
Upgraded amenities in Executive Spa room The showerhead is adjustable from a gentle “rain” type setting through to piercing jets. The hot water arrived quickly and there was never an issue of running out. The towels were sparkling white, in perfect condition and super soft while also absorbing water quickly and effortlessly. They were so good, in fact, we have tracked down the supplier and ordered some for home.
In summary, we loved our large, spacious, well appointed executive spa upgrade room. It was well worth the extra $20 per night.
Upgraded Executive Spa Room 5 star review
Pool Area Comfortable lounges, first class service, ice cold drinks, swim up bar. What else does a pool area need to have at a 5 star resort? Nothing in our book.
Our package included a couple of free drinks and we thought there was no better place to enjoy them than lounging next to the pool.
The Decorative Pool Area Leading To The Main Pool Area With Pool Bar In The Background Dining During our 5 night stay at the Sheraton Grand Mirage, we only had two meals outside, dinner on 2 occasions. We enjoyed 5 breakfasts, 5 lunches, 3 dinners and 1 high tea and here is what we thought.
Breakfast All you can eat buffet breakfast including one cup of espresso coffee. The breakfast buffet had a large range of fresh fruit, cereals and pre cooked hot section that included fried eggs, sausages, mushrooms, baked beans and tomatoes. We enjoyed the chef station where you could get fresh scramble or poached eggs or a made to order omelette.
There was a wide selection of fresh bread to choose from and a toaster. This is self service and the toaster could be a little challenging if the person before you had fiddled with the controls, either turning your toast into a warm piece of bread or a barely recognisable pieced of burnt charcoal, but on the whole it worked well.
A very popular section was the self-service juice bar, which had a huge selection of fresh fruit and vegetables and a juicer for those looking for a healthier start to the day.
Our breakfast was included in our room rate, and we were pleased with that owing to the hefty $48 per person price tag.
Lunch For lunch, you could enjoy an à la carte menu in the restaurant, however, due to the huge breakfasts we were enjoying we opted for the lighter snack type menu available at the poolside bar and Pearls Bar. The menu, while not extensive, was large enough that we didn’t feel restricted in our choices or have the need to eat the same item multiple times.
We both enjoyed the salt and pepper calamari – it was a real highlight! Beautifully cooked, soft and packed full of flavour. We highly recommend it, especially with a nice cold beer soaking up the sun at the poolside bar.
High Tea
If you follow our travels, you will know we love being a little bit fancy and enjoying a high tea. We have to say the Sheraton Grand Mirage high tea is up there with the best. Reasonably priced at $47 per person we enjoyed the variety and quality immensely.
The High Tea Was Spectacular! Seafood Buffet at Sheraton Grand Mirage Gold Coast The main dining room at the Sheraton Grand Mirage is renowned for the nightly seafood buffet, and we now know why!
Our package deal with Luxury Escapes includes dinner for 2 at the seafood buffet, and we were really looking forward to it. Bookings are essential, so on arrival, we booked for Saturday night.
OMG! The seafood buffet was fantastic
A Small Part Of The Enormous Seafood Buffet To Choose From There is so much to choose from! Fresh tiger and king prawns, Moreton Bay bugs – natural or in a butter and garlic sauce, Sydney rock oysters natural, Kilpatrick and with cheese (interesting but nice), salt and pepper calamari, spider crab, an enormous baked snapper and the list goes on and on and on.
Sheraton Grand Mirage Seafood Buffet Prawns As expected, the table service was top notch. Drinks were supplied quickly, waste was removed frequently and fresh plates were aplenty.
For those not keen on seafood, the restaurant also has the normal full à la carte menu available, as well as a kid’s menu.
For me, there was one big disappointment – no lobster. We have enjoyed many seafood buffets on our travels, and lobster is a staple in my book. To me, this was a big letdown and for the price, $110 per person on a Saturday night, I expected lobster. A seafood buffet without lobster will only get 4 stars, regardless of how good everything else was.
Overall dining experience
Overall Value For Money As mentioned earlier, we secured an amazing deal through Luxury Escapes for 5 nights that included the upgrade to an Executive Spa room, Seafood buffet for 2, daily full breakfast and 2 complimentary drinks per day (1 each).
We paid $1599 all up, and we consider this an amazing price. In fact, at $1999 it would still be great value.
Pauline and I have no hesitation recommending a stay at the Sheraton Grand Mirage on the Gold Coast. In fact, we have pencilled this into our “must do again” experiences.
We recommend you subscribe to Luxury Escapes ASAP as they do have amazing deals like this all the time. Subscribe to Luxury Escapes by clicking here .
